Between sea and mountain

Avast amphitheater on the Mediterranean, with its soft and sunny climate, the Languedoc-Roussillon area is characterized by an extreme variety and a richness of sites of quality:

  • Le lac des bouillouses 220 km of coasts, with a rocky and wild coastline covering 180km, with fine sandy beaches,
  • A vast littoral plain,from the Rhone to the Pyrenees, where villages and cities share a rich historical and cultural inheritance and a modernized and dynamic agriculture,
  • A stage of hills and garrigues, with the staged slopes favourable with the culture of the vineyards and olive-trees, sharing many coastal rivers and rivers descending from the close mountains,
  • The mountains: the Massif Central to the north, with varied sites (Aubrac, Margeride, the Cevennes and Grands Causses), and the Pyrenees to the south, with its high tops and its winter sports resorts.

Located in the heart of the Mediterranean arc, the Languedoc Roussillon area saw a double dynamics of European integration and co-operation with the Mediterranean basin. The Languedoc-Roussillon area is at the same time a way of passage - of European level - and an open and gravitational space, thanks to:

  • Its function of platform multimode of communications (maritime, air, railway, river and routi&eg turned towards the external markets.
  • Its important network of foreign firms, established in Languedoc-Roussillon Septimanie, which reinforces the international opening of the area.
